Horse Riding in the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Involves Horse Riding
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY - EXPERINCED RIDERS WELCOME

[SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES]

Sacred valley of the incasWe own special mountain bred horses descended from noble Spanish Barbs brought from Spain in the 1500s...Crossed with the comfortable but less sure-footed Paso breed our mountain horses give a strong, comfortable ride with greater endurance, stability and reliability needed for steep Inca trails. We raise and train horses at our ranch in the Sacred Valley. The horses are no nonsense, experienced, sure-footed, non gaited mountain trail horses affording a secure, comfortable ride on steep pathways.

One and Two Day Horse Riding in the Sacred Valley of the Incas
Day 1:

Alicia and ShamboWe Pick you up at your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley at around 7:00am and drive for 45 minutes passing the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and Puca Pucara by road and over the historic C’orao pass and down into the Sacred Valley of the Incas and on to the traditional village of Lamay near Pisac. Here we’ll meet our Horses and wranglers at our Lamay stables and head off up the pleasant Lamay Valley, as peasant farmers using traditional foot ploughs, till the fields. This will be a full day ride through the Andean countryside past the traditional village of Sahua and following the Del Carmen River up past Poques, carrying a gourmet picnic lunch with fine wine. We’ll be visiting isolated farming communities with stunning views of the Cordillera Vilcanota, seeing how the Quechua farmers really live aways from the main tourist routes, and visit deep blue high Andean Lake full of waterfowl such as Giant Coots and Andean Geese. As we drop back into the Lamay valley our horses will pick up speed as they know they are heading home and we’ll arrive at our stables in Lamay in the late afternoon The scenery is unsurpassed, as are our string of horses which are well trained, well groomed and well looked after. On arrival at the stables we'll serve cold drinks as your mounts rest and cool down. Our van will be waiting to drive you to your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley as you wish. We provide a gourmet picnic lunch with plenty of liquids. L.

The Ruins of Huchuy Cusco and the Lamay ValleyWe Pick you up at your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley at around 7:00am and drive for 45 minutes passing the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and Puca Pucara by road and over the historic C’orao pass and down into the Sacred Valley of the Incas and on to the traditional village of Lamay near Pisac. We provide a gourmet picnic lunch with plenty of liquids and leave you to your own devices for dinner. L.

Day 2:

Stables at LamayA leisurely hotel breakfast with fresh brewed coffee, toast and eggs. To-day we ride to the little known spectacular Inca ruins of Huchuy-Cusco. Starting in Lamay we head up to the ruins via a wide Andean valley. This is a fascinating ride initially along the Urubamba river and then a gradual ascent to a small plateau commanding a magnificent view of the Sacred Valley of the Incas from 800 meters above the valley floor. The ruins are of stone and adobe and there is a fine great hall 40 meters long. This was probably a regional administrative center. As our horses rest and gaze and enjoying a picnic lunch we have plenty of time to enjoy a gourmet lunch, the view and explore the ruins before riding down to the valley floor at Calca where our van will be waiting to drive us to our hotel in Cusco or Urubamba or Pisac – your choice. B:L.

NOTE: Two day rides to wilder country with a nights camping available upon request
